Port 25 Blocked
Greetings,
My ISP (charter) sucks balls and they block smtp being run on port 25. This can be a pain for those trying to run their own mailservers. In my case, I can actually send mail to the outside world *from* my server, but cannot recieve mail. So I think the general workaround is to have your mail sent to a server that has access to port 25, and then from there have them forward the mail to my server but along a different port (2525 seems popular). I have a friend that is willing to do this, but my question is: what exactly are the specifics of doing such a thing? How does he recieve my mail? How does he forward it to me along a different port? How do I set up my mail to listen to port 2525 for smtp? P.S. I'm running Fedora Core I and am using sendmail and pine. |

You are correct Quote:
That is because by action, thought or deed, you are using your ISP's MX record for SEND of mail. So, really you are sending mail from your ISP acct. Quote:
Correct, this is the standard workaround Quote:
Nice Friend, he may want to charge you for this service, most other do... Quote:
a) he has to have the MX setting for your email b) his server forwards the mails to your port via MAIL REFLECTION c) you set your email server to listen on the specified port Check out www.no-ip.com. They offer this service for a fee. Even if you don't use them, <which technically I don't care since I don't own the company, I just used them in the past and always had good luck with them>, you can read ABOUT how to do what you want. Dump Sendmail ~ Pine - go web based, add control, and be popular with all the other email kids by using QMAIL... there is DETAILED tutorial install for your build at:: www.qmailrocks.org < see my notes about no-ip and substitute qmailrocks for no-ip, I use 'em, I like 'em, I don't own 'em... >hth...Frog
