qmail receive error

Hi,

I have qmail installed and working on my server.
But it looks like I have some problem with my maildirectory configuration. I followed instructions from life with qamil. After installing I sent one message to my mailserver addressed to root but it bounced. Here is my bounced message

[sinp]

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mail.conopscentral.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<sam@mail.conopscentral.com>:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)

--- Below this line is a copy of the message.

Return-Path: <isam0ne@netscape.net>
Received: (qmail 29216 invoked by alias); 28 Dec 2003 13:38:46 -0000
Delivered-To: root@conopscentral.com
Received: (qmail 29213 invoked from network); 28 Dec 2003 13:37:55 -0000
Received: from unknown (HELO sam@conopscentral.com) (61.11.102.76)
by mail.conopscentral.com with SMTP; 28 Dec 2003 13:37:55 -0000
hi there,
howdy.
hope these asciis will get to you somehow.

[/snip]

1) qmail doesn't deliver any message to root by default
2) sam@mail.mydomain.com is not the same as sam@mydomain.com
3) Asking for help here using mydomain.com is next to useless. If you really need some helps, don't obscure your DNS data.

Use xxx@conopscentral.com format, don't use xxx@mail.conopscentral.com to confuse your friends and yourself.

1) Edit the appropriate file so the qmail-showctl has the following:

bouncehost -> conopscentral.com
defaulthost -> conopscentral.com

2) In /var/qmail/users/assign file, you need to add a line for +mail.conopscentral.com-..... Your existing +conopscentral.com- doesn't imply message destined for mail.conopscentral.com will get delivered even though it exists in rcpthosts file. Be sure to rebuild the assign file.

the "mailbox does not exist" error persists

I added following line to my assign file

+mail.conopscentral.com-sam:sam:500:500:/home/sam:::

but still getting error.

also changed address mail.conopscentral.com to
conopscentral.com

Uh-oh: First line of your .qmail file is blankDescriptive enough, what don't you understand?
Check your /home/sam/.qmail and remove the blank line.

the file /home/sam/.qmail itself didn't exist.
just created with content as

[contents of /home/sam/.qmail file]
./Mailbox
[end of contents]

on the very first line of the file.

and looks like it worked.

Thank you very much for your valuable help.

can't I use "mail" as my default client? if yes how do I set it?

or I _have_ to use fetchmail or procmail?
