Recommendations for setup

I've been tasked with setting up a mail server for a boys summer camp I work for. I've got a Centos 5.0 server and I'm not positive what route I should go with as I've never had to look into this issue before.

A friend of mine says that he likes qmail as the MTA. What do you guys think of this? There will probably be no more than 10 addresses.

What about a POP or IMAP server? I'll probably end up hosting multiple domains with this server so I was thinking about using vpopmail.

Spam filtering? Anti-virus? Does anyone know where I can find out information about different options? Searching on google isn't working well for me because I don't know what is good or not.

Any info is appreciated.

Well, the first thing to choose is which mail server you want to use. Qmail, Sendmail, and Postfix are the 3 most common using Linux. I have tried all 3, and seem to like Sendmail the most. Qmail is not bad either, but I did run into certain problems in trying to install it. So I've been using Sendmail for about 4 or 5 years now with no problems.

With Sendmail, I use Dovecot for IMAP / POP connections.

As far as a spam program, SpamAssassin is supposed to be pretty good.

I don't use any antivirus program, so unfortunately don't really have any recommendations as far as that goes.

One other thing I would recommend at least looking into, to help configure your server, is Webmin. With this free, easy to use GUI, you can also set up Virtualmin which helps you setup, maintain, and configure the various domains you do end up having on the server.
