Hello experts,
I'm trying to convince sendmail to relay email via an IP address. This IP address dosen't have a hostname, and sendmail bounces emails back. This is the message that goes into the error log: ... sendmail[1817]: OAA01815: OAA01817: DSN: Host unknown (Name server: 194.*.**: host not found) I've tried adding 194.*.*.* mailhost.domain.name to /etc/hosts and putting that in sendmail.cf and HUP'ing it, but still to no avail. Please help, Neil |

It doesn't have reverse DNS? That doesn't matter. Quote:

I've changed the sendmail configuration to relay via an IP address. The machine can no longer send email directly. Quote:
Well... that's why sendmail won't relay, that's the problem. I've tried editing my /etc/hosts file to give the IP address an alias, but it didn't help. Quote:
Why would the IP address and hostname the machine help? It's behind a firewall so wouldn't help you, would it? If you think the hostname or IP address will help, I'll post them. ![]() |
