Setting up a new Account or Identity in Outlook Express

Hi

I have Win XP. I have just installed Broadband and with that I have a 'primary email address' which is used as my login username for connecting to the internet. However it also seems to be the default email account for when I log into Outlook Express. Basically how do I change this so the default email address is something else ? I have tried going to Tools, Accounts and changing the properties of the account that is there but this does not work and I can't login into Outlook Exp. So it seems as though I have to leave the account that is set up there. So I tried looking at an alternative solution - something called 'Identities'. I added a new Identity and deleted (by accident) something called Main Identity, however I cannot log on with the new identity - same problem as when I tried altering the account. Firstly what is the "Main Identity" and how do I get it back...do I simply create a single new identity and rename it Main Identity? And how do I set up a new default email address for when I log into to Outlook Express? I was told by our ISP that we are allowed up to 6 email addresses - although I cannot see how we do this without ringing up our ISP each time to get a new password and email address authorised, or is there some way to add a new account, so when opening up Outlook Exp. it goes by default to the new account (instead of my broadband login username!)?

Thank you for any help

Matt

outlook problems

Hi Matt,

You are on the right track.. As I recall (haven't used Outlook express for a while) you can set up a new identity for each Outlook Express user. For example; you, your sister, your dad, your dog These identities can also have passwords Your will need to pick a default identity, but if you wish to keep it private password protect it. Switching identities can be a little tricky for a NooB, so have a play - then you can show anyone else that may need to use it the proceedure.

Once you have the identies set up you can then add the email accounts to them. So you would add your email setting to ur identity, your sisters to her identity, ur dogs to his, etc. This will mean you only get your emails, and your sister only gets hers, etc.

You shouldn't need to call your ISP up each time you want to set up an email - most ISP's have a config page where you can log on and create new accounts. Unless they are in the dark ages.

Hope this helps

BuR
