spamassassin - input please

Anyone using spamassassin and can give me some reviews on it? I'm currently testing ways to stop spam or at least reduce it to a minimum on my debian box.

Any other spam sofware I could take a look at?

One step you can take is use DNS RBL's to block connections from known spammers. I use the sbl.spamhaus.org zone on my mail server; it blocks 75% of incoming connections as known spam sources! Additionally you might want to use an open proxy blacklist such as opm.blitzed.org and an open relay list such as relays.ordb.org

I also maintain a list of "bad phrases" which blocks the majority of the rest of my spam. I'm sure SpamAssassin would be much more effective at this, as it has a much bigger heuristics database. Getting SpamAssassin working with qmail is an ongoing project of mine.

Update: I have installed SpamAssassin on my box, and running a few of my addresses through it. Under tests at home on various spam collections, it detected 85% of spam correctly. You can also train it to do Bayesian filtering, though this isn't something I've experimented with.

spamassassin is an excellent program. It can do a lot of things and a lot of ppl have had success with it. I have installed it myself at my work place on 10 - 15 servers. My setup is very basic as i dont find much time to improvise the setup. I experimented with it for a few days and just had that setup running on the servers.

You can subscribe to their mailing list where there is lot of useful info. They have sets of tailored rules using which you can filter atleast 95% of your SPAM.
