Squirrel Mail with unix accounts

How can i use squirrel mail with local system accounts or any nice webmail client with with email users actually having real accounts on server

any ideas anyone how can i set up qmail with imap and connect through squirrlmail ?
i try logging in through my email accounts and i get unknown user name or password incorrect from squirrel mail. Help please
how can i check if imap is work? presently i can pop mail using outlook using qmail-pop3d

Are you logging in with the full user name? i.e. yourname@domain.com?

Check with your mail client. Create an imap account instead of pop3.

then i try login <username> <password>
login NO Error in IMAP command received by server.

the message above is all i get
