vpopmail add/del domain errors out

I have a problem. any time i try to add or remove a domain using vpopmail i get errors. to be more specific i get either

Hangup

or

Signal 1 caught by ps (procps version 2.0.13).

sometimes the domains end up in the database, sometimes they don't; sometimes dirs get made in /home/vpopmail/domains/ and sometimes they dont. I've reinstalled vpopmail and triple checked the qmail installation.

vpopmail worked without a hitch until this morning.

if any of you have any ideas, i'd be more than happy to hear anything.

got it, svscan was erroring out, looking for an old file that no longer existed. was causing funky errors in qmail all over.
