Often the server type is identified in the SMTP HELO response.

In my limited experience, it is the greeting when you establish a connection that most often identifies the server software.

    Thanks for your replies

I remember I once ran a command that returned the following

    220 domain.com ESMTP
    HELP
    214 qmail home page: http://pobox.com/~djb/qmail.html
So this indicates that the server is running QMAIL, correct?

Could you please tell me what command would return the following? I forgot it.

Also, as you can tell, I am quite a novice when it comes to all these, so please pardon my dumb questions, just trying to learn is all
