What APIs are available for mobile programming?

I use for years Java ME which is supported from 95% of mobile phones.

BUT it hasn't rich enough API, specially for GUI, and now I am trying to change to something else.

The problem is that nothing else is supported 95% of mobile phones.

    There are:
    • Android
    • Symbian
    • Mobile Windows (rejected because of Microsoft)
    • Maemo

but none of them can run programs of another.

    What is your thought?

PS: I am hobbyist and what you say can be a decision for what mobile I will buy (my opinion until now: Nokia N900 / Maemo)

Nokia has some pretty good new APIs - http://www.forum.nokia.com/Ovi/
You have to register for the beta program I think,
    but it looks quite interesting.

Of course this is for Nokia devices only :-)

    Cheers,
    Jamie
