for this motherboard, you should buy a computer
get a discrete video card, some ddr memory, a decent chipset, a good cooler, you know... and get anything else you need. ... you need to be more specific. what will you use this computer for? maybe give 2 or 3 brands you are interested in and your price ranges. most people usually have an idea of what they want ![]() |

Well, you could get dual Athlon MP processors with a 266mhz fsb speed, or a single Athlon XP processor with a 266mhz fsb speed.
The video card you get depends on your use. That board is meant more for server/workstation use, so it doesn't support AGP 8x (though 8x cards should be compatible at 4x), but it does have AGP pro, so you could get a workstation type graphics card, like the Radeon FireGL series. Buy as much pc2100 DDR Ram as you can afford (at least 512mb) You need at least a 400w power supply, from a good manufacturer (zalman, pc power&cooling, antec, or thermaltake, for example) You don't choose the chipset, it's part of the board. The cooler you get is up to you. I usually recommend the Zalman CNPS7000a-Cu, but if you're running dual cpus I don't think they will fit, look for something square that doesn't overhang the cpu socket much. (Maybe Cooler Master?) "Anything else you need" is pretty vague. To finish the computer you'll need at least a hard drive and optical (cd-rom) drive, and a case. Probably some case fans. What are you going to use this computer for?

get another 512 ddr stick and you should be fine. for a video card, just get a card that's around $200 and you will be good for gaming. you can find a lot of computer products and newegg.com i bought pretty much my entire computer there.

Really that board isn't a gaming setup, its meant for workstation/graphics work.
A Radeon 9800pro ($200) is the best moderately priced card. The Nvidia 6800 GT has probably the best price/performance ratio in the next generation cards (~$400), but will be slowed by your 4x AGP slot. The best cpu with the 266fsb is the 2600+ t-bred. Zalman makes good coolers, as I previously mentioned. You can get everything you need at newegg.com Depending what "A good bit" of money is, you might want to consider making a new computer for gaming, and using the current one for programming, internet, videos, etc because it won't be a screaming game machine no matter what you do. (It will be ok, but you won't be using the highest resolutions on FarCry, Doom 3, etc) Its up to you, and depends what games you play and how much. |

Hmm, I won't be able to play the newer game at there higher
settings? I dont know what to do well I only payed $150.00 for the tower the motherboard and all the fans, chip, ram and all the fixens. If you will, was it a bad thing to buy this, I am kinda new at buying and building comps I took some classes and stuff but still the **** we lerned in that class was on crap comps. I just want to build a realy good computer. What kind of motherbord shoud I get to fulfill my needs. |

If you only paid $150 for that stuff, you got a heck of a deal, I would take that in a second. Again, it will play anything, but you'll have to turn down detail on the latest and greatest games. If nothing else I would keep this for a testing/spare pc. You can swap parts out of it if you need to test things, and back up your data there. It was definitely a bargain.
If that is not acceptable, we need to know how much you're willing to spend, and what games you want to play, to be specific. A few pointers to start though: Athlon XP's are generally cheaper than comperable Pentiums, yet great for gaming. The Athlon 64's pretty much rule for gaming, but cost a bit more. ABIT and Asus are good mobo manufacturers, and overclock well, if you're interested in that. Cutting edge video cards cost $400+, but if you want Doom3 on "high" quality and 1280x1024 resolution, they are a must. You can't have too much ram, and faster is better. |
