Question ABIT AN7 - Boot beeps / problem

Hi Folks,

I bought an AN7 today to upgrade my childrens game PC. All was well and it booted up perfectly and went to the 'F1 to continue' / 'DEL to enter' ABIT set up screen. I went into BIOS, checked all looked OK and it did, set it to optimised settings and F10'd out. At that reboot, it rebooted with not just a beep but a high-low siren sound and the MOBO will not POST further now. I've reset the CMOS jumper, pulled the battery and replaced it, reseated 1 stick of DDR, removed the Vid card & booted, replaced it and booted, booted without RAM and every other thing I have read on the net tonight. Has anybody any other solutions. From that and what I have read I gather it is more than likely to be the CPU - can anyone confirm that idea?

Thanks

i had a similar problem with my Abit NF7-S2. i know their not the same boards but i heard the same siren. this happened cuz i set the warning level for cpu temperature reading to only 50C and i had been playing a game and when i was prompted to reboot after installing an update, i heard that loud siren ring at 4:30 in the morning (im sure my mom also heard it ) i just waited a few minutes before i rebooted and changed the warning temps. to about 56C. this was all in the PC health menu in the bios, which you might have inadvertently set up as well or your computer may just be running too hot. either way it's something to check out. hoped this helped

Thanks for that.

That all sounds very similar, except, no matter how long I wait, which would allow the chip to cool if it was overheating, the siren starts as soon as the board powers up and, there's no way to get into BIOS now...I still think it is chip related.

that's what happened to mine too. the siren started as soon as i turned the power on (after not letting it cool down first) but i was still able to get into bios...try again. just forget the siren (should only be a warning) then go to the pc health menu and try turning up the warning temps for the cpu and/or case (dont remember which) if you cant even get into bios then you may have fried ur kid's board

if you can at least get into bios, then you can press one of the F something buttons which will load the failsafe settings which also might help, the function buttons are all listed at the bottom, as you might know

1: What post code is showing on the led display when the computer goes as far as it can in the boot cycle? There's a table in the manual that you can check to see if this is indicating an error.

2: What are the Halt_On features set to in the Standard CMOS Settings menu?

The high/low tones indicate a cpu or heat problem. Check that you have seated the cpu correctly w/ no bent pins and that the heatsink is contantacting the cpu completely. Check the alarm temperature in the bios as constant_fie has recommended as well.

Just a thought. Check your fan on the CPU. If it isn't working that could be the problem. I had something similar to that a while back. Found the fan and CPU was full of lint and dust. I cleaned it out and haven't had any problems with that since, (YET).

Siren sounding beeps - voltage prob

I've just had a similar problem with my AN7 based computer - driving me and my wife crazy.

When looking at the ABIT EQ Monitor (once the picture is up, click on the left-most button under the read-out. My 3.3V chipset was showing 2.83 or thereabouts. Hence the siren sound. I even had a hard time booting until I cleared CMOS (pull the stupid box out from under the desk, replug everything etc.). The thing that's similar to yours is that it wasn't a heat problem so as long as I had everything plugged in (USBs etc.), it was coming back to haunt me. So, I simply reduced low side of voltage warning with the ABIT EQ Monitor slide and once I hit "Apply", it immediately stopped. Of course, I'm not sure just how low the chipset 3.3V should be before I worry but that noise has stopped. I'm guessing my Antec 380W power supply is somewhat loaded given everything I've got plugged in. Hope this helps...

my problem is preety much like yours rockape

whenever i turn off my computer for more than 6hours when i turn it back on i get the siren and it won't pass the post. i get post codes such as AF, CF and other strange errors..
i had my processor tested on another motherboard and it was fine, replaced the video card and the problem continued. i reseated the dual ddr sticks and i got the same. sometimes if i reset the bios it will boot, but others it won't. sometimes it takes me days to get this working again. i changed the cpu's cooler and nothing changed, so you shouldn't worry about that. in my case i think the memory sticks are bad, check yours!
