Are the 2 proccesors needed for Dual opteron motherboard ?
I would like to know if I have to put both proccesors or if the motherboard can work with just one:
This is the motherboard (Dual AMD Opteron): ASUS KFN4-DRE/2GBL The proccesor I would like to use is this: AMD Opteron 2210 HE Santa Rosa 1.8GHz The point is that I don't want 2 buy 2 proccesors. I want to start with 1, then add the second one. Thanks.

well read the manual
![]() after a quick look through the manual and i see this (implying that a single CPU will work) Quote:
which I believe is pretty common, at least for AMD systems, the only thing to worry about is sometimes its not fully functional with one CPU, they sometimes connect devices (like RAID controllers) to CPU2 which then means you need CPU2 to use that device, but the block diagram for that system shows that there shouldn't be anything (except the second bank of RAM) that will not function, so you can only use half the RAM slots on that board with one CPU (same goes for all AMD systems)
