I'm tellin ya, just spend a little more money and find one on Newegg. They have a lot of motherboards on there and I have never had anything DOA from there.
Good luck man! Welcome to the forum! Chad

Newegg
Quote:
Chad, I don't think Newegg is a service available in Australia. They only ship to USA and Peurto Rico. In my forum browsing last night I did come across a couple of instances of boards being RMA'd to Newegg and I was only looking at ASRock K7S41GX boards. I am also finding many instances of the same issue with these boards and even another guy who, like me, had 2 in a row. I've been searching for things like "K7S41GX Dead" and "K7S41GX DOA" etc etc and there are lots of hits. One guy bought 12 and had 2 dead ones. Another guy recieved a dead board that had obviously been a previous return (jumpers not in factory default positions). Another guy claims to have been positive his board was a refurbished unit and not new. The list goes on. I did find one interesting thing though. There was one post which described the problem and said it was fixed by replacing the Dead CMOS Battery with a good one. In my experience computers will still boot with flat batteries but your date and time is all wrong. You often get a warning that your battery is flat but you can still boot. What do you think about that one? |

Hmm, I didn't know that Newegg wouldn't ship AUS. I would honestly find the one you want, then find a vendor around you that will ship to you. Dealtime, Ebay, or others you might want to try.
Also, the CMOS battery would have a large part to play with the not starting. You are right with low batteries it WILL start but give warnings. If it has no kickstart juice how will it start? Might go and spend the $2.95 on a new battery at Radioshak (you guys have those?) and just give it a shot. Best of luck to you, Chad |

Yeah, we have a places called DSE and Tandy. Aussie versions of Radioshack. I'll be p'd off if that's all it is. Didn't even consider that it could be the battery! Last edited by livo : April 12th, 2007 at 08:17 PM. Reason: Change proprietry name |

I doubt it'll be the CMOS battery, as machines still boot with faulty batteries but you need to change the BIOS settings and time/date on each boot.
Personally, I would have volleyed it out the nearest window and just bought a new one for all the hassle it is giving you ! I know it's good to get to get a problem solved and get something working again, but sometimes the hassle just isn't worth it! Anyhoo - what did the expert guy have to say about it ? Did he get it sorted ? I'm curious as to what was really wrong with it.

Going but not happy

The guy just rang me and he has it working. He wont tell me what he did? Wants to charge me $55.00. He says the board didn't know whether it was Arthor or Martha because of the jumper settings I'd made. This is obviously rubbish as everyhting was as supplied except the FSB jumper which was set to 333 position as per Manual. I'll investigate and let you know. |

Fixed
The Techo would not tell me what he did because he couldn't.
As soon as he opened it up I noticed all jumpers as they were BUT there was a new Power Supply installed. He was trying to tell me that it was only part of the problem. I don't believe him. It was the PSU all along and this could well be what the problem was with the original ECS Motherboard as well. Voltages were reading fine with multimeter but obviously not holding up under load. So there you go. ![]() Last edited by livo : April 13th, 2007 at 09:55 PM. Reason: spell |

So, basically he's charged you $55 for changing out the PSU and is trying to let you think he's worked some magic with the actual mobo !?
I'm just glad you've got it working now mate. ![]() |

Yeeehaaah.

That is exactly correct. I think people with less knowledge could easily be hoodwinked by this guy. I know he did nothing other than swap the PSU as all the jumpers were as they were when I gave it to him. He tried to tell me I'd made some errors in the BIOS settings as well but when I asked him how I could have done that when I never reached BIOS he fluffed up a bit and told me that the settings were wrong. I asked him "Are you telling me that the BIOS settings were not Factory Default? Because that would mean that this is not a new board in which case I'll take it back to the supplier." He then tried to change the focus back to physical setting changes which didn't exist so I knew this was rubbish talk. It was then that I spotted the PSU change and I truly believe that he thought I wouldn't notice. Anyhow, I'm posting this from the running system so there you go. I'm angry at myself because a threader on another forum told me PSU and I actually got one off a mate but never tried it as mine was testing OK with voltages. It was obviously under tolerances when loaded (even bare). I am ensuring that I make conclusion in all Forums so people can see what happened. It has been very frustrating for me to find so many instances identical to mine and no concluding notification of fix or destroy end result. To both of you thanks heaps. Cheers from Aus. Greg |

$55 for a new PSU isn't all that bad. You kinda sorta got a bargain. Well, just to make this thread complete can you please list the manuf, model, max out, and all the specs on the PSU that he replaced it with. Then list what you did have in it in the same fashion? That way we can get a full spectrum of knowledge here.
Thanks, Chad |
