ASUS A8V Deluxe Random Crash

Hi guys, my system crashes (screen hangs, mouse cursor is distorted, then screen goes black, and computer resets itself) when I play games like Warcraft III. Here is the detail of my system:

ASUS A8V Deluxe Motherboard (Rev 2.0 I think) Bios Ver. 1008
Antec Trupower 430watts
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb. (latest ATI driver)
Kingston HyperX DDR3700 1GB
Western Digital WDC-1600JB (160GB)

Originally, I had a cheap power supply, 450watts, and Kingstong Value Ram DDR3700 (CL3). Raised the timing to slowest on all settings for the memory, and my games would crash. So I bought the antec PS, bought a better RAM... now my system still crash. I am not overclocking the motherboard either. Any Ideas?

Did you adjust your memory timings back to default?

I would try downgrading your video drivers to the next newest version and see if that makes a difference.

Take a look at what's running in the background and examine the possibility that there is a driver conflict going on, as well.

yeah, I did change memory setting back to default (auto).

I've rolled back my video card driver to last one also, no help, should I keep rolling back?

Last night i installed world of warcraft for the first time. Played it under 1028x786 for about 4 hours w/o crashing. Then when I was about to log off, i wanted to try a higher resoultion (i know my computer is "supposed" to handle it smoothly...), so I changed to 1280x1024, and it crashed in under 1 minute...

Do you have any cooling on the video card? It sounds like the driver rollback worked for you, until you dialed up the higher resolution.

Well, the card itself comes with a heatsink and fan on the VPU/GPU (whatever u call it), and thats it.

Update: I bought a new Leadtek Winfast 6600GT AGP 8x Card to try it out. So far no crash!!!!!!! I ran World of Warcraft @ 1600x1200 for 2 hours no crash.

I guess I can conclude that the video card is either bad, or not compatible with my A8V mobo.

Thx for the help

Any update?

I know this thread is a year old, but in case you get this could you please let me know if the 6600GT card continued to solve your problem?

I'm having identical problems to the one you described, and my system components are very similar too.

ASUS A8V Deluxe motherboard
Alastor 9800 Radeon 128Mb
etc.

Ged
