ASUS Mobo/CPU/PSU? fail

I have just bought an ASUS P5GDC-V Deluxe Mobo, P4 LGA775 3.2 CPU, a set of Kingston hyperX 400mhz and a Altec NeoPower 480 watt PSU.
I put them all together and funnily enough it all worked a treat. I played with the BIOS to get all my disks appearing and then I loaded XP. All loaded ok and I and I started to load some of the maunfacturers software. Then on one of the restarts xp hung during the boot, I had to actuate the off button for the 4 second hold period before it would shut down. The restart gave the option of safe mode but the normal boot worked ok, but after a couple more restarts it hung again. This time though the front panel off button no longer worked so it had to be shut down at the power point.

Now it will no longer power up at all - no fans, no drive power, no front panel power LED although the Mobo led is still lit. I have tried tried the PSU reset but no help.

So my question is . . . have I fried the mobo, the CPU or the PSU and how do I tell??

Any help gratefully (desperately) received

Darryl

They fry if you can see some burn marks. Check the connections between the pSU and the computer, its a PSU issue, but its funny that it worked and just died shortly after you bought it.

I have had a quick play with the multimeter and the PSU output connector (24 pin) only has two outputs at the moment, both 5 vdc one from the PS#ON line and one from the 5v standby line. I guess that this means it is in soft off mode.
The manual it says that the PS#ON can be reset (after a latched shutdown) but am I correct in thinking that with the main connector removed it breaks the ground to the PS#ON line and so the PSU should power up . . or does it power up when a ground is supplied to the PS#ON line??

Thanks
