Asus p5k mobo and a intel 6750 problems

Hi guys;

First I wanted to say hello and thaks to anyone who can help me in advance. I am trying to build a new system with the iteams above and a his1650 videocard, as well as 2 gs of crucial. After I load xp pro everything is fine until I start to load the p35 chipsets off the cd or intel web. After doing the update at the end I get an "unknown error" diag box and restart the machine. Then windows will ask to restart from a previously good point at startup and windows will come up. I will then get a taskbar and icons with the background scene of the rolling hills.After the final program loads the taskbar and icons will just vanish. I do get task mngr doing a 3 finger salute and kind of navagate around that way. It will also startup under safe mode but it would be helpful for the rest to work. The only other things that I have loaded were the lan driver and the dsl cd. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I kinda had the same problem but it gave me errors while installing the Asus disk drivers for the board, sound card and ethernet...

I chose the "Last known good values" and installed only the ethernet driver. Then proceeded to download SP2 and all the other windows updates for WinXp...

Try looking for Asus drivers on the web, so you get the latest one, as well as the Realtek soundcard drivers, but everything was working without the update for me. So it's up to you.

My format setup is:

Install ethernet drivers (so you can connect to net)
Install all critical windows updates, then disconnect net
Install chipset drivers
Install Video drivers
Install all other device drivers
Install antivirus software
reconnect to net

And I download all the latest drivers I can find from the net on another comp.
