Question Bootup problems after new motherboard installation

Hi guys I've read through threads containing similar problems to mine but am not convinced that they are the same. Appologies if this issue has already been dealt with.

Basically I've bought a new ABIT AV8-3rd eye mb (939 socket), an Athlon 64 3500+ CPU and 512MB DDR 400 RAM. I set the whole thing up in my ATX case and upon turning the power on the POST and BIOS works fine. However when the system tries to boot windows I get a blue screen with the following message:

"A problem has been detected and wndows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."

It then gives me advice, such as check for viruses on the computer, remove any newly installed hard drives etc.

At the bottom of the screen the following code is displayed:

*** STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF89C3528, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

I should point out that I did not format the hard drive before installing the new MB as I did not realise it was necessary. I'm a first time computer builder so it's all a bit new and daunting to me. I'm just praying that my hard drive hasn't been wiped

I would be extremely grateful for any advice that you could give me. Many thanks in advance.

Windows almost certainly won't work if you switch motherboards, especially win xp. You should be able to get away with reinstalling windows though I would recommend a full format of your disk so you have a fresh start. Obviously if you have data on the hard disk that you want to keep this isn't possible. If you still have the old hardware (everything that made up your pc before you upgraded) you could try putting it all back together and then you should have the same system you had in the first place, then you could backup all necessary files before building your new pc with a formatted disk. Just a suggestion. I'm assuming of course that you have a windows installation/reinstallation CD. If you decide just to format your disk in your new configuration, you may need the disk to get to the DOS prompt. If there's essential data at stake you should make sure you know EXACTLY what you're doing before you start.

Here Is How To Swap A Mobo In Xp Without Reinstall

http://www.mostlycreativeworkshop.com/article11.html follow the instructions on this page to complete ur build, you will have to do these steps with your original motherboard in windows then switch out the board after you have performed all the steps. I know this method works I do it about ten times a day for people. Good luck
