if your board did not come with a user manual, download it from the asus site, on the motherboard next to the ram slots there is a jumper that must be set to the speed of the cpu and ram, called a dram jumper, this is for dual, or even triple supportive boards, if you put a duron on the same board it's speeds would be different. the reason for this, if anyone remembers the first pc2100 boards(even asus) had alot of problems, it was from trying to detect the speeds of different processor/ram setups.

that screen shows you exactly what to look for and what the bus speeds are for the pin settings. set these to the 333/266 position.
as for the overclock on athlon, you have a athlon 2600 which is supposed to mean you can safely over clock to 2.6 gig, this can be done in the bios. as for anything else about overclocking i do not get into these matters, 1 it voids warranty on the cpu and motherboard, 2 i try to help people fix their computer, this can have the opposite effect. 3 not to sound like a smart a$$, but if you don't know how, you probably don't need to. for the simple reason it can fry your stuff. you have to monitor your temperatures, make sure you have enough cooling and be willing to work around alot of stability issues.

the link i posted on my last reply shows exactly, where to look and what to look for, your system must have that jumper set to a 200mhz front side bus, if you change the position as show in my afore mentioned link you will be good to go, if this does not fix you , you have the wrong ram, or cheap ram that does not register properly, i dont know of anyway possible to explain this any better, i even provided pictures.

To answer your original question about why does it show 1.9 instead of 2.6....

Remember that the 2500+ is just to tell you that it is equivalent in performance to a Pentium chip. Although it performs at the same level as a 2.5ghz P4, the clock speed is not actually 2.5ghz. It is only 1.9ghz. Windows is showing you accurate information. I would not recommend trying to overclock it til it show 2.6 in windows. You'll blow it up.

    Find a shop

The pins you talked about power d3- and gnd are for your usb ports on the front of your case (if any)

You will probably have 2 rows of 5 pins with 1 pin missing...

they will be labeled something like this...
    Code:
    power | d2+ | d2- | gnd

    . . . . . <---spare
    . . . .

    power | d3+ | d3- | gnd
No disrispect to yourself chaldoray but i think you should take your system to a local pc shop, its a VERY small job.

Or if you are really determined then find out the exact mobo type and post it here...

    in reply to raklet:
He put 1.09ghz i think that a 2500 still runs at 1.9ghz and his fsb is set wrong....

    Did you read my post?

If you tell me exactly which motherboard you have i will find out which jumper you need to change and what the setting is.

As known_criminal already told you, if you go here:
    http://www.asuscom.de/products/mb/so...x-x/jumper.htm
and that is the same as your mobo then move the shown jump to the top position.

You have given conflicting info, in your thread subject you put that you have a 2500 and aren't sure which mobo.

Then you said you have a 2600 running at 2.4ghz, i can tell you that i'm running a 2600 and it runs at 2.083ghz at 333fsb

This is what yours should run if it is a 333 fsb AMD Athlon 2600.

If you want to take a chance and then just move the CPU_FSB to the other position (pressuming it has 3 pins, if it doesn't put a jumper on it)

Don't come crying if you fry your mobo tho!

the picture on the link posted above is correct to his motherboard, unless he posted the wrong model, it even shows the jumper settings, i gave up because i couldnt possibly think of a way to explain it any better. as i said, i used pictures.
