Can't make it to POST
Weird stuff, all of this just started yesterday, no previous warnings signs at all...
So I boot up my computer yesterday to find windows is failing during startup. I do some research into the sys file it's failing at, and from that it leads me to believe it's a hardware issue (bad hd, cpu overheating...) So I decide to open up the pc, dust off and re-seat all the components, including cpu and its heatsink/fan. This was a bad idea, as now I can't even get to POST. I'll turn on the system, the fans will start up and that's about it. I don't hear any noises from the hard drives, the cdrom will spin briefly then stop, no beeps or anything from the mobo. Anyways, I check all my connections, nothing... Swap my video card out for my old agp one, nothing.... I then tried using only one stick of ram in each slot, still nothing.... I'm guessing I somehow damaged the mobo when re-seating everything.... Although, I did make sure to ground myself, and everything went in and out quite smoothly.... Anyways, any suggestions? |

Once again, check all components are seated correctly, including the CPU.
Are you sure you earthed yourself properly ? Even the slightest bit of static electricity can damage a mobo.

Yup, I made sure to discharge against the power supply before working with the components. Everything is seated nice and firm. When seating the cpu, the locking mechanism had some resistance when I pushed it down. It felt right, and I couldn't just lift the cpu out after it was locked. I'm guessing the mobo just died on me, can't really think of anything else to do..... |

I'm not all that sure that the motherboard is the issue here, I think it could be the CPU or at worst, both the motherboard and the CPU.
Does the CPU fan spin when the machine is switched on ? Do the lights come on on the mobo ? |

The motherboard is an asrock 939 dual sata, I've never noticed any lights on the motherboard itself, so if it does have a couple LEDs somewhere, they're not turning on. And yes, the cpu fan does work when I turn the machine on. I should also mention I've tried removing the cmos battery, should clear the cmos right? Anyways, I have another mobo on the way, so I guess I'll find out if my mobo is the culprit. |

When you tried removing the CMOS battery, did the machine reach POST ?

Symptoms sound familiar.

aitken325i, these symptoms are very similar to my issue which turned out to be Power Supply. The difference is that my mobo was new and this one is not but it is an ASRock. Mate check out a different PSU if you have one and rule that out or in straight away. Check out similar thread in this forum. Hope you get it going soon. |

It could be the PSU, but it could also be the CPU.

Don't think it's the power supply, the old psu was replaced recently. I haven't had the new one for more than a few months. Anyways, I thought the heck with it, so an intel core 2 is on it's way.....

Did you order a mobo/cpu combo ?
