Change motherboard
i just wanna ask if i will change a new motherboard do i need to reinstall the Operating system on it?
for let say thesame brand of ASUS but different model? |

No. The OS is stored on the hard drive, so as long as you aren't swapping out hard drives, you are fine.

If the OS is XP, there is a 50/50 chance that it will ask you to re-activate Windows, but this won't cause you any problems if your copy is legal.

in many cases Windows will not boot after changing out the mobo.
Unless the boards (old and new) are the same make and series the onboard devices will not be the same and unless the drivers are removed from the hard drive...When Windows tries to boot the installed drivers won't match the new hardware. I have seen tutorials (here on devshed) on how to remove the drivers etc before changing main boards but I have never tried it...I have always planned on a clean install after a mobo upgrade/replacement. There may be other newer methods to do this but I am not aware of them and I am unfamiliar with Windows XP. Good Luck |
