Computer Will Not Start - Motherboard failed?
Hello All,
[Like a bad pickup line in a bar...everyone here seems to post with same problems! lol] I have a custom computer that will no longer start. It has a Epox EP-8RDA series MB (XP machine). Failed to start a week ago after 9 months of good service. ID'd a failed power supply (410w) and replaced. New power supply (500w) tested OK (PS Tester) and was put in. I went to start and had a brief moment of life (fans on, lights) and then it went dead. Cannot get the machine to power on (no lights, fans, POST code LED). I unplugged the 24 pin connector and plugged it into the tester. Tester registered it OK and the fans and hard drives (that were still connected) started to power up. New PS appears OK. Plugged it back into the MB and same problems. Machine will not start up. Is my MB dead? It is an older system, but still works OK. MB of this vintage are hard to find and I don't want to upgrade the entire system. Any suggestions? [I posted this problem to Epox Support, but have had not responses yet.] thanks |

Hi Speal and welcome to Dev Shed.
From what you are saying, it does indeed sound like a failed motherboard, sorry. ![]()

Thanks. I had a feeling that might be it. I thought I would see if there was some tricky way to exercise the demons from the machine. Time to test out that Newegg.com RMA process! Of a bigger concern is the replacement. This is a Athlon XP 2000 machine. All the other parts still work fine are are fairly new. I'd hate to be in for a bunch of $$ because I could not find a comparable MB (new memory, CPU, video card, etc.) |
