Computer Won't Boot, Powers up, no screen, no beebs, no post or bios
I've been beating my head against the wall trying to figure this one out
. I got some tips from PCWorld on how to speed up my computer. Kinda wanted to see if it would make a difference. So I changed the CAS Latency setting for my RAM from 2.5 down to 2. I also changed the Fast Command setting from normal to Fast or Ultra, can't remember. I left the frequency setting on auto. I saved the settings and rebooted the system. Once it rebooted, there was nothing on the screen. My monitor automaticly shuts off when no signal is detected. It never turned back on when it rebooted. No beep codes or POST beeps. So I turned it off let it sit for 30 min and turned it back on. The monitor turned on, but did not detect a signal. So, I turned the computer off again and cleared the CMOS. That did nothing. I turned it off again and reset the bios by removing the battery for about 5 minutes. Put it back in and fired it up and still no change. I also tried moving the RAM to different slots and also one at a time. Nothing. What can I do to fix this?I Built my own system: AMD XP 3000+ cpu Soltek SL-75FRV mobo VIA kt400 chipset 1 gig ram (2 512mb) PC2700 333MHz 350W PSU 80GB Western Digital HDD ATI 9200 128MB video I guess what I have done by reducing my CAS latency of the ram from 2.5 down to 2 is overclocked it. I pulled out the RAM and it said that it was rated for CAS 2.5. I chainged that to 2. Could I have fried the memory or the motherboard? If not, is there a way to reverse these changes? I can't get into the bios. Computer won't even boot. It just powers on. Please HELP!!! Last edited by Dngrsone : December 16th, 2005 at 01:05 PM. |

I had trouble with short circuits with my board, just had to unscrew some screws and keep it off the back plate as my case was rubbish. Personally I would not except any advice from pcworld, there just salesmen if their was a chance for profit they would tell you to jump off a bridge. Goingback to your motherboard I hope you are warrantied because it's deader then the dodo your only hope is to get pc3200 ram chips (really fast maybe they can deal with the latency), lay your mtherboard on a unconductive service and power-up, throw it in the bin or call your manufacturer and see if it is covered for repair i was lucky mine was covered for three years, sent it back twice. got a new one now and the old one which is exceptionally good, although it f's up often.

Never listen to PC World, they dont know what they are talking about.
The cause is because you changed the cas latency of your ram. Your ram obviously cant support it. Motherboards select the relavent latency for your ram. The ram is unable to operate at these settings, therefore this is going to be one of the reasons for the problem. Take out the battery on the motherboard, leave it for 10 minutes and put it back in. You will then be back on default bios settings. Running cas2 on your ram may be possible, but you need to give the ram some extra voltage. This should fix your problem -Chris |

Be sure to unplug the computer when you do that...

I did read right, you did initially take out the cmos battery for a duration, because this will default your system settings, otherwise follow my previous advice.
