cpu starts but monitor remains inactive
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and not sure of the rules but need some help desperately. I have a computer at home. its 2.5 ghz celeron, 256 DDR, 20GB HD has a CD-RW and DVD player. Recently i did some updates on drivers and never restarted my computer after that. Yesterday when i came home from work, the keybord and mouse were not responding and so i restarted my computer. It shows me a list of options to choose from for loggin in. for eg. Safe Mode, Normal, last know good configuration, and so on...but it freezes on any option that i choose. I recall that it kept stopping at Mup.sys while trying to load through the safe mode. So I kept restarting the computer. Now it has reached a point where the cpu seems to start (i can see lights in front of cpu coming up) but the monitor stays in standby mode. I noticed that the fans were not operating either. I have another CPU and i connected the monitor to this second CPU and it seems to work fine. Does anyone know what might have happened and how can i correct this? i've tried to remove the system battery and reinstall it..but no changes. Thank you all for any inputs that you can provide. Parvez. |

by "cpu" do u mean the tower/case or whatever or the actual processor inside the case? have you done anything inside ur case? lights coming on could mean lots of things. do you hear any noises? is your monitor cable connected correctly? If you do manage to get it working again but get the same safe mode, normal mode stuff and then a crash, i suggest running the repair prog from the winxp cd (if u r using xp that is). as for the 2nd "cpu" it was unlikely to be a monitor prob especially if fans were not working. open your case and make sure the processor fan is connected properly. if the pc turns on but the fans don't spin, switch it off or u'll fry ur processor. any more info would be useful.
