Does my good old motherboard support ddr?

I have a pentium 4 pc with 512mb 133mhz SDRAM DIMM.

Ive got a 1gb pc 2700 333mhz DDR DIMM card.

Can i replace the SDRAM with this DDR memory?

When i look at the intel site they only tested SDRAM for my motherboard (model: D845WN): http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845wn/sb/cs-008941.htm

So i dont know if it even supports DDR memory. But ive read on a forum that it does... So im a little lost here.


When this 1gb DDR memory doesnt work, i guess i should get some more 133mhz 512mb SDRAM cards... any differences between those too?

umm i dont understand... Is normal sdram (which i got) also DDR? The more i read into this the more lost i get.

Compare the number of notches in the memory slot on the motherboard to the number of notches in the memory stick. If they are not the same or the notches don't line up, then they are not compatible.

non-DDR SDRAM is not the same as and is not compatible with DDR SDRAM.

Thanks, i opened up my pc and its indeed only non-DDR sdram so this 1gb memory wont fit. Im starting to understand it a little more now. But ive got one more question:
Ive got a pentium 4 with the intel chipset version i mentioned in my first post. I have 3 non-DDR sdram slots (1 of them has the 512mb SDRAM in it) so there are 2 empty slots left. Now i want 2 extra 512mb SDRAM cards to put in there and im looking at some ads.
This text looks like it will fit:

"2x Samsung 512mb sdram. Specs: PC133/100, 168PIN, Non ECC, Unbufferd

PLEASE NOTE: This memory will fit on the following chipsets:
VIA: KT133(A) ;VIA Apollo KT133; 694T ; 694X; P4x266
SIS: 730 ; 630; 650 ; 651 ; 735 ; 645 ; 740"

I dont see an intel chipset in that list. So will this fit?

after a long search i found 2 extra 512 mb ram sticks.

I put these in slot 2 and 3 besides the other 512 mb ram in slot 1.

PC does not start up. Does nothing.

Removed the one from slot 3.

Does nothing.

Removed slot 3 and slot 2, leaving the old one left, so its the same setup ive been working with for years.

Still does nothing!!!!

what is it with pc's? Why does it always have to be so complicated? It's exactly the same is it was now and it doesnt work anymore. Great. What couldve happened?

Does the system power on at all? Any lights? Beeps? Check that the remaining ram is seated securely, as well as that all cables and components are securely attached.

Thanks for the reply. I already checked with a busier forum, and tried everything they could come up with. Still no beeps, nothing, conclusion is that the mobo is dead. Picking up a new pc tomorrow.

Will changing the Motherboard only be a smart move rather than going for a new PC? I was thinking to upgrade My PC by doing so.

I have upgraded my PC 3 times with new MoBo's. The big advantage is $$$$.

I get to use almost everything in the computer while upgrading overall performance. I try to keep my hardware up to current standards so this is not a problem with installing a new mobo.

Besides, Changing just the MoBo is "GREEN".
Less stuff into landfills and more green in your bank account.
