Having problem recognizing scsi card
Hello everyone,
I'm helping my neighbor with his computer but I'm not very experienced with SCSI. His problem started when the system didn't recognize either of his cd-roms. I checked the device manager and the drivers are installed properly and that they are working. There is however a conflict I saw in the device manager regarding the SCSI controller (SCSI and RAID controllers Adaptec AHA-151X/AHA-152X or AIC-6260/AIC-6360 SCSI Host Adaptor (non-pnp)). Apparently, Windows XP can't determine the settings so I have to manually configure the settings. I did a little research and finally found someone who had the same problem and fixed it by setting the IRQ to 12 with an I/O range of 0340-035F and unplugging his mouse from his PS/2 and plugging it in to his COM port. Also, he had to change the jumper to 12 on the SCSI board. Well, I thought I found an answer to the problem but where do I get a serial mouse?? There has to be another way. I believe the OS is Win XP Home and the last version of the driver I can find is Win 95. Would that matter? The driver is working properly so I'm a little confused. Any suggestions? Thanks! Ox |

the fix that the person is talking about is not fixing it because of the mouse, its that the more things you disable on the motherboard (like the ps2 port) the more free IRQs you will have, and i'm guessing that you need a free IRQ or two
so i would recommend disabling everything you don't use on the motherboard, like the gameport, serial ports, ps2 ports, and maybe even firewire if its not used, then use a usb printer/mouse/keyboard (use takes up only one IRQ and shares it with all devices on the use) and you should free up plenty of IRQs for your SCSI card
