How to replace the mobo, but keep the AM0D 64 3000+
I'm not sure if my motherboard seems not to be able to handle my Radeon x700, nor my amd 64 3000+processor any longer...OR if it is the X700 Making life miserable as ATI products do. My self-built system worked for about 6 months ,but now crashes constantly.
Question 1: Seeing that it is a K8M8MS, I wanna get an update anyway. Can I keep the Processor, after I remove it from the K8M8MS, and put it on the new Mobo? How do I do that properly? Question 2: Is it just a driver problem, one that can be fixed with a new driver for the motherboard? Question 3: Is the ATI problem just an Isolated one with the people that I know? Should I switch to Nvidia..say..a 6800? I could use some help.... P(2e) |

Welcome to the forums.
I'm not familiar with the speed of the x700 so i can't tell you if you need an upgrade, but before replacing the mobo i would recommend finding out what the cause of your problems is, when you say it crashes, how(lockup, error msg, reboot) and when (when gaming or when web browsing)? your problem may be cooling related or it may be parts too slow for what you do, so what type of things do you do? what games? as for replacing the mobo, i would first recommend a reinstall of your OS, if your running windows you will need to reinstall after upgrading your mobo anyways (its considered a new comp, so you need a new key/ fresh install), i tend to think this will fix it, but if not then i would invest in better cooling for your case to see if that helps, its cheap and its not a waste its actually not that hard to upgrade a mobo, just a pain in the a$$ as you have to remove a lot of stuff, basically you need to remove just about every part from the computer (except drives/power supply, though on some cases it may be easier to remove these too), then its just like a new computer, do every step you did to build the computer the first time around except with the new motherboard

Wellllll.....
1)The ATI message center asks me if I want to send an error message, and try to reconfigure the disply settings... or 2) It will go straight black screen, power save mode for my monitor... I can't play city of heroes anymore, because of the lock-up. Looking at some web pages causes it to do one or both of my examples...sometimes within minutes of being on the site. how do i properly remove the thermojuice from the processor? |

could be a driver problem, but for the graphics card not the mobo. try reinstall the (newest ) drivers again.
if that don't help, then try some of the suggestion by edman007. |

I had a similar problem before. Anytime I would start a game, or graphics intense program the computer would give me an ATI error message and reboot. Turns out that the fan on the card got all clogged up, so I took it out and cleaned it. Fixed the problem in all but 20 minutes.
So, take a look at your GPU fan. See if its working
