I have a IBM netvista PC. (P4 2.0, 256 RAM) When I power it on, It says can't find operating system. I went to BIOS and found it can't detect hard drive. then I just save setting (did nothing) and restart pc, it bootup without problem. Now each time I must go to BIOS first and then restart PC in BIOS, the PC can bootup smoothly. So anyone any idea what's going on with this piece of junk?
I checked the cable and add another hard drive, the problem still exist. connection and hard drive should be ok because the pc can start up from BIOS. |

Change your IDE a.k.a Data cable! That should fix it.

Hi freshair and welcome to Dev Shed.
Try clearing your CMOS by removing the battery on the motherboard for a few minutes before replacing and then trying to boot - this should restore your BIOS. If that fails, try updating your BIOS to the latest version.

I had to replace the CMOS batter in my Netvista N42 just last month, it's about time they start dying. Assuming it's the same, it should be a cr1220 (iirc)
Your symptoms do sound right for this, as drive config, etc. is loaded from bios before detection, for use with some of the NetVista versions with encryption/authentication before allowing HD access. |
