Angry IBM Netvista Bootup problem

I have a IBM netvista PC. (P4 2.0, 256 RAM) When I power it on, It says can't find operating system. I went to BIOS and found it can't detect hard drive. then I just save setting (did nothing) and restart pc, it bootup without problem. Now each time I must go to BIOS first and then restart PC in BIOS, the PC can bootup smoothly. So anyone any idea what's going on with this piece of junk?

I checked the cable and add another hard drive, the problem still exist. connection and hard drive should be ok because the pc can start up from BIOS.

Change your IDE a.k.a Data cable! That should fix it.

Hi freshair and welcome to Dev Shed.

Try clearing your CMOS by removing the battery on the motherboard for a few minutes before replacing and then trying to boot - this should restore your BIOS.

If that fails, try updating your BIOS to the latest version.

I had to replace the CMOS batter in my Netvista N42 just last month, it's about time they start dying. Assuming it's the same, it should be a cr1220 (iirc)

Your symptoms do sound right for this, as drive config, etc. is loaded from bios before detection, for use with some of the NetVista versions with encryption/authentication before allowing HD access.
