Too many Intel chipsets to choose from....HELP!
If I had gone to intel.com before I came here I would have probably not written this silly post.
But I am still open to any ideas
I am building a small home recording studio. To start with I am replacing my SiS motherboard with an Intel board. Intel is much more audio friendly than SiS when it comes to recording.
I realize that, in general, you get what you pay for and the more recently the chipset was developed the better it will be, BUT...
What I need to know is ...
Is there more than one "line" of Intel chipsets? Would one series or another be better for audio production? I don't want to pay for performance that is geared more to servers than what I'm using it for. There seems to be many chipsets with the same number but different letters. I'm a little confused by the variety available. I need something like a website with an outline of recent chipsets from Intel, or a chronology. I just need a little bit of a clue. I'm not looking for the best, just something that supports a P4 and will get the job done.
Any suggestions or URLs are greatly appreciated.
