If anyone can help.....
Gigabyte 7vrxp 512MB DDR XP1800 Win XPSP1 Gef 4 Ti4200 Installed a new CPU cooler (Zalman 7000) and the bugger won't boot at all now. Normal start up will POST, and can enter BIOS. Fan running and running nice and cool. Then it gets nasty. screen with "windows did not start successfully" blah blah blah. Then offers safemode/command prompt/last good known config. Whichever choice, the sytem then just hangs and nothing else happens. Tried to boot from XP CD, and the computer hangs at "Setup is starting windows" HAve switched back to the old CPU fan, installed a new 400W PSU, pulled the hard drive out and tested it in a new computer(and its OK) Nothing helps. HAve unplugged and replugged everything The way I figure, it must be the motherboard or the CPU. Any easy way to figure out which , or do I have to bite the bullet and buy new CPU + MB? Thanks |

First of all wich cpu is it(Intel or AMD) and how fast is it. You may want to try different memory. I have had memory go bad and do what your saying yours is doing. Also if you use an Intel cpu higher that 3.0Ghz they some times hang like you said yours did when you tried to boot the xp cd. When i build my new p4 3.20Ghz it took it almost 5 min. to get through the setup and I also built a dual xeon computer and it did the same thing on the xp setup.
