Mobo beeping, no video after crash
Hello,
Lately I have been having issues with the most troublesome file in Windows XP, Mup.sys. After trying methods I have found over the internet, nothing worked; So last by least I must destroy my files and reformat with a fresh install. After the last method I tried, removing the CMOS battery. I plugged in the PC, attempted to reboot, I hear beeping, constantly, then my computer shuts off. I try to power it back up, and nothing happens. I figure its the power supply after constantly powering up and shutting down due to the methods suggested trying to fix my Mup.sys problem. The next day I buy a power supply, slap in the box, power it up, I hear nothing but beeping and no video. I look at my video card and the fan isn't moving. So i think, maybe some surge affected the video card? I attempted to replace it with an older one and the same thing, powers up but no video and constant beeping. Any suggestions, ideas would be much appreciated. To make it a bit easier here are the specs: CPU: Pentium4 2.53 Ghz Memory: 1024MB DDR PC2100 Hard-drive: 120GB Hard drive 7200rpm, 180GB HDD 5400rpm Multimedia Drives: 16x DVD-ROM, DVD+R/+RW writer Motherboard: ECS L4S5ADX+, SIS645DX, SOCKET 478, 5PCI, AGP, CNR, 3DDR 333 DIMM, UDMA 133, AUDIO, LAN, USB2.0, ATX - L4S5ADX+- SIS645DX chipset 400/533MHz FSB (http://www.axiontech.com/prdt.php?item=17201) Video Card(s): Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4200 64MB DDR video card- AGP interface & Nvidia GeForce4 FX 5200 128MB DDR AGP Power Supply: 330W (old) - 350W (new Allied Powersupply) Thank you for reading my post ![]() |

well count the beeps and look it up in the manual for your board, that will tell you whats wrong, if you don't have the manual get it from the manufactures site
as for trying to reset the BIOS there should be a reset jumper on the board to reset the BIOS (sometimes removing the battery is not enough), on most boards i think you just set the jumper, wait 10 seconds, then put it back and try to boot, also try booting without the battery (beware that doing this will mean its impossible to make changes to the BIOS), also try just hitting the button to get into the BIOS, if you don't know then hitting F2, Escape, and delete a lot when it tries to boot will help, and maybe that will let you into the BIOS

It could be anything... like edman said, look up the POST codes. I would check all connections, and verify the video card is seated well-- they can pop loose on the front end. Check the processor and memory, ensure they are well-seated, though I don't think that's a problem since you are getting POST codes. Make sure your keyboard is plugged in.

You might want to try holding the insert button while powering up. The same thing happened to me, I just hold the insert button and press the power button so i could troubleshoot.
