That's got to be the most generic, loaded question I've seen. That's like asking which is the best vegetable-- you'll not get the same answer twice.
What are you planning on using the computer for; how much are you willing to spend; what, if any, equipment do you already have that you wish to use with this motherboard; do you have any preferences we should know about (will only buy Intel, for example) are all questions that need to be answered, for starters.

Well, the Nvidia chipsets are tailored toward the extreme gamer and overclocker (they tend to be one and the same), so you really can't go wrong there.
If you want to concentrate on gaming, then you want to go with and AMD processor, either 754 or 939 socket... if you plan on buying a new video card and power supply, then go with the 939 chipset with PCI-E, the MSI NForce4 boards are good. Again, you need to answer the questions I listed above for anyone to really give you a solid recommendation. |

I've gotten along famously with ASUS motherboards. No matter my task the ASUS brand has done me right. I'm on my 4th ASUS board, but all previously 3 are still in working condition powering boxes devoted to useless tasks. The point? These little bastards just keep ticking. My oldest one is almost 7 yrs young (and still going).

For gaming, an AMD CPU with an nVidia chipset sounds like the best option. And if you have the money to dish out, you can go for an SLI configuration. It depends, though, we need to know what you plan on doing. Gigabyte are some ultimate geek boards, stable, yet feature rich. MSI are nice stable, affordable motherboards. ASUS are more powerful, stable, and some overclocking features, and usually are on the cutting edge side of technology. DFI motherboards or for people who like to tweak every little bit they can, and are great for overclockers.
