Motherboard, CPU or something else failed?

Hi Folks, Ime John and a complete non starter when it comes to computer problems, so I am hoping that one of you kind people could help me please.

I have an ebox fitted with a Soyo DragonPlus K7V motherboard and AMD Athlon cpu. Something has gone badly wrong! When I switch on, the fans whirl, the hard drive runs and the green light on the motherboard lights up,but nothing else. There are no beeps, no BIOS, or anything coming up on the screen.

I had someone have a look at the machine, and his verdict was that the motherboard or cpu had 'died', he was not sure which, but he did say it would be to expensive for him to repair. If anyone can help with suggestions or advice I would be sincerely gratefull to you.

Also, I have been offered a Soyo SY K7VEM Pro board and a AMD pcu (think it is a duron or something spelt similar). Would this be a suitable replacement for my dragonPlus please?

Thanks very much,

John.

Hi, im having a similar problem with my Athlon CPU. However dont rule out a power supply. I just got a new CPU, and motherboard (like your friend suggested)to "fix" this problem only to be back where I started. Oh and a Duron is by far inferior to an Athlon, expecially if it is an Athlon XP. But, whatever gets you going again. As for my problem, I am probably going to get a new power supply tomorrow and prey to god that that fixes it!
