Hi tarheel99 and welcome to Dev Shed.
The more information you can give us, the easier it is for us to help you. When you say that other drives can be seen fine, are these hard drives or optical drives ? Is the drive not recognised in the BIOS or is this by the operating system ? If it's the latter, what is the OS that you are using ?

Is this an IDE drive ? Have you ensured that the jumpers on the drive are set correctly ?

hey th99
what kind of drive make/model is it? so, I can check manuf. jumper settings. what do jumper settings on the rear of YOUR drive look like? Show them like this below where this | is a jumper block. [::::::::::::::::::::] [:|:::] {oooo} How many drives are on that IDE cable when your system will not boot nor recognize the drive(s)? one? two? If two, what do jumper settings on the rear of the OTHER drive look like? Show same as above diagram. |

Is the drive a brand new drive? It might need to be formatted before you can use it.

Hey th99,
you may want to read this: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/conf_Cable.htm just a refresher about drive configurations. |

You guys do realize that this is a 9 month old thread, right? It was dug up by someone a few days ago inquiring about another problem altogether, so seriously doubt the original OP still has the problem. Just my two cents though. @sindbadmourad: As for a pdf to repair motherboards and such, there is not one generic pdf that will encompass this. If you have a particular make, model, brand, etc, then you can visit the manufacturer's website to pull up info on that particular model. |
