Unhappy Motherboard Problem?

Hi all,

My problem is that my motherboard does not power up. Everything worked fine until last week. When I turned it on, the power came on for about a second or so, then everything went dead. I tried again many times, power came on about 1 or 2 then off after that. I did not install any new hardware or software, or tried to configuring anything. Can anyone tell me what's the problem. I first thought it was the CPU, so I tested with my 2.5 GHz 533 MHz FSB CPU, and the same thing happens. Is it the motherboard? Power supply, processor? or whatever else? I had my processor exchanged since its still under warranty and my dad told me too, but afraid to put it in because I afraid it might get fried. I don't think it's the CPU problem. Thanks in advance for your helps. Here are my comp's specs.

CPU: Intel P4 3.0 GHz HT
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 FSB 800
RAM: 1 GB DDR400
Video: 256 MB
HDD: 160 GB
Power Supply: 450 W

Check your motherboard installation and make sure the board isn't touching the chassis where it shouldn't.

Then, disconnect the power from everything but the motherboard and see if the motherboard powers up... there may be a drive or fan shorting out and causing the PSU to shut down.

Also, the PSU itself may be going bad.

Thanks for your helps Dngrsone. I did everything like you told, and everything works fine. I guess the MOBO is bad. Just got the RMA from Gigabyte, I'll send the MOBO in for a little check-up. This will take at least 3 weeks or so. Fortunately I still have my laptop.

I finally got my MOBO back. Hook it up and everything works smoothly. It turns out that there's something wrong with the MOBO. Although Gigabyte didn't provide any documents regarding the problem and solution, I notice some new capacitors where the old ones used to be. (They're around the CPU socket.) Guess I'll never know what the problem is. I didn't think it would take this long for them to fix it though. Happy that everything got solved, and I have my computer up and running again. Thanks all for your inputs in that matter.
