Motherboard problems?

Hello all

I have a Pentium III 1Ghz on the MSI 815EP Pro-RAID motherboard and 512MB (2x256) of Crucial CL2 PC133 SDRAM. This setup has lasted for around 2.5 years already.

Just last week, Windows XP started behaving weirdly. The computer would hang for no reason about 2 or 3 minutes into my Windows session. I could be copying files or downloading stuff and it would just hang. With one stick of RAM it would hang and with the other stick of RAM the mouse will start behaving erratically and then the whole computer will just restart.

I ran MemTest86 on both sticks of RAM separately and both of them reported errors at exactly the same location! The RAM is confirmed fine since it passes the test on another machine with no problems at all.

I suspect the motherboard is having a problem but then as my motherboard does not have warranty anymore, do you think it can still be repaired? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do?

Thanks!

for what it's worth: i had the exact same problem on a asus cuv266 appollo pro board, chased the problem around for days reinstalled xp, still happened, updated the bios, same problem. checked everything with a ohms meter, the cmos battery showed weak, put a new one in, used the seagate tools did a full erase of the drive, installed xp yet again. works fine and has been for over 6 months. dont know which actually helped , the battery or the format, pretty sure there was no virus on the drive before i started, and all the files i backed up i reinstalled with no problems, all the same software and updates are back on it so.....a 3 dollar battery is atleast worth a shot.
