    Question Motherboard + RAM compatibility

    Hello,

I have a quick question about a motherboard and ram compatibility.

MSI X99A XPOWER AC LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI X99A XPOWER AC LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com

    and

    CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 128GB (8 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2800 (PC4 22400) Desktop Memory Model CMD128GX4M8B2800C14
    CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 128GB (8 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2800 (PC4 22400) Desktop Memory Model CMD128GX4M8B2800C14 - Newegg.com

I couldn't this RAM in the supported list on MSI's website. I have a feeling that that page is not updated as it doesn't even list any 16gig sizes. Similarly, corsair's website lists only 2 motherboards which are asus x99 deluxe and rampage v extreme as supported.

I just wanted to double check before spending almost $1700 on these 2 components.

I appreciate your time and consideration in advance.

I have an intel i7 5930K haswell-e processor. It looks like I won't be able to use 128 gig ram based on this information:
    Intel® Core

Looks like you found the answer yourself. (max. 64 GB RAM with that CPU)

    1. Pick a motherboard with the features you want.
    2. Look at the motherboard's hardware compatibility list for a supported CPU with the speed/features you want.
    3. Look at the motherboard's and CPU's hardware compatibility list for supported RAM with the size/speed/timings you want. Mind the maximum size allowed, number of RAM slots, and any dual-/quad-channel requirements (eg, three RAM sticks doesn't perform as well as two or four).

Then that's a no. 128GB is for server or very high-end gaming motherboards.
