msi k8t master-2 -- which heatsink?
Hi folks,
I'm thinking about getting an msi k8t master-2 MOBO with 2 opteron 244's for a postgresql server running on gentoo. I know that the mobo uses nonstandard p4 mounting brackets to mount heatsinks and comes with 2 different heatsinks. I hear the fans are supposed to be REALLY loud. Since I want to have this server sitting next to my webserver in my living room, I want it to be quiet (yet stable and reliable). I've heard good things about thermalright's sp-97 heatsinks. Can I use them with opterons? Will they cover the whole processor? Can I mount them somehow on the MSI? I'm not going to use an agp graphics card on the MOBO. Since it's just a server, I'm going to use a very old PCI graphics card to give me more room to put a larger heatsink (since the agp slot is near the heatsink and the box will run headless). any advice about heatsinks for this mobo would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like you have your pick of P4 coolers. Thermalrights are very good, but very big. Same w/ the Zalman CNPS7000a-Cu that I normally recommend. You could try getting one, and seeing if two would fit.
Otherwise, look at vantec, coolermaster, other types of zalman, and thermaltake. Note: You may already know this, but using P4 heatsinks voids the opterons' warranty on retail packaged cpus. For that reason, I'd look at other mobos that use the normal AMD mounts for the heatsink.
