Msi648 -Stuck at Memory Check
Hi,
I have an old MSI 648 Max-L mobo and tried to add another stick of memory. When I turned the PC on nothing came up. The D-Bracket shows red lights on the left side and green on right indicating it is checking memory. I tried the original stick of memory and the new one in a borrowed PC and both work fine. I also removed any cards (PCI & AGP), turned on the PC and I got 8 beeps. Not sure what else to try. Direction on what to try next is most appreciated. |

Hi hutchman and welcome to Dev Shed.
Did you consult the mobo manual to see what the 8 beep code means ? It can mean bad video which would fit seeing as how you removed the AGP card, but consult the manual to be sure. Did you remember to earth yourself before you installed the extra stick ?

hello aitken325 appreciate your response. The beep codes are not in the manual, but I found them online for the bios (AMI) and 8 beeps means it failed the video memory test. however that only happens when the video card is removed.... so it makes sense. I thought I was grounded. But if I wasn't then what component would fail? Because I used the memory in another PC I do not think it would be a problem, so would it be the CPU or some other component on the board? thanks |
