New DFI Motherboard wont start
G'day all,
To give you an idea of what happened this is what i posted on another site a few days ago. "I have this PC. One day, Big bloody storm came through ,computer wasn't running at the time, big bolt of lightning hit nearby and knocked lights out in the house but not the power points(they were still working). Went to fire up the computer and it stopped working (wouldn't fire up at all),I have absolutely no power at all, thinking that the power supply was nixed i went out and got a new Thermaltake 470 watt to replace the Thermaltake 430 watt that was supposedly buggered. I installed the new psu and still have got nothing, nada ,nix ,jack ****. I have now uninstalled the mobo, can't find any burns or scorching , pulled apart the computer and put it back together again and still cant find the problem. Is it fair to say that the mobo is rooted or could there be another cause. Any help would be appreciated." Mobo is a DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D AMD64 932 3500 Righto, The problem is now, i can't get the new motherboard to fire up as well, exactly the same problem.I get a LED light showing that there is standby power to the motherboard but that's it,nothing else. So far i have replaced the PSU from 430 watt to 470 Replaced the motherboard with a new DFI Lanparty UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert I have tested the board with just the power connections hooked up to see if it would start but nothing happens. As well as other combinations but nothing happens. This problem has really , really got me stuffed. Has anybody out there encountered this problem or seen something like this???? Any help appreciated. Thanks |

Hi Grungle and welcome to Dev Shed.
On first thoughts, I am thinking that the new motherboard you have installed may itself be faulty, but there are a few other possibilities. Have you tries re-setting the CMOS ? Try removing the CMOS battery for 5 minutes before replacing and then trying to boot. Have you double checked that all connections are in place and properly connected ?

G'day aitken,
Yeah mate, tried the battery removal and clear CMOS have tried just about everything and are unfortunately thinking along the same lines as you in regards to the new mobo being faulty as well. There is one thing though, the new motherboard has a 8 pin power socket in addition to the i think 24 pin plug plus the 6 pin for the pci graphics. The new PSU has only a 4 pin for additional power but according to DFI this shouldn't be a problem. Any thoughts on that?? Thanks |

Hey there Grungle,
My advice... Stop buying DFI Lanparty boards... I too have a DFI LanParty nForce 4 Ultra-D and the CMOS frequently becomes corrupt and needs to be re-set to factory defaults. Shortly after buying the board I was told by my friend that there has been a very large number of faulty boards shipped by DFI. My problem, however not as major as yours, has led me to search for a new board to replace this one asap (an evga 680i maybe?) I hope you can get this problem fixed, or replaced. EDIT: I misread your last paragraph about the 8 pin extra power socket... My board too had an extra power socket on, and it would not power up without having this extra socket plugged into from the PSU... Last edited by TomGlenn : May 18th, 2007 at 05:28 AM. |

The EVGA 680i is a GREAT board, assuming you have the wattage and the money.

I've been using DFI boards for awhile and only one has given me trouble. I'm starting to steer clear from DFI though because there isn't any support for them. I think it's either in chinese or it's something I can't make out. They need to support their product like some of the other brands.
