New MB, PC just reboots
Hi, I just replaced a motherboard in an XP home (e-machines) machine. I turned on the machine. After about a minute, the screen displayed the Windows XP "New Installation" message - welcoming me to Windows XP, etc. I went through the screens, entered the XP home key, and finished. The machine restarted, and sat at the Windows XP loading screen for about 7 minutes, then restarted again (BIOS listing then Windows XP load screen). This does not change. I get the same result if I go into safe mode. I looked in the bios, it is an American Megatrends v02.58. The only setting I see for errors is in the boot section, there is a line "Wait for "F1" if error", it is set to enabled. I tried going into the recovery console, but I do not have the original XP home disk. I made a set of XP home boot disks to get into RC. ChkDsk shows no errors. I am not sure now what to do. Thanks for any help.

It sounds like it may be getting over heated... make sure the system fan and or the CPU cooling fan/heat sink are working properly...
does the system bios have system monitoring? |

Did you have any problems with your Windows installation before you changed the motherboard ?

Hi and thanks for responding. I looked in the bios, in the system monitor, everything looks ok. And I was not having any problems with the OS before. I thought the power supply failed, bought a new one, had the same problem. The pc was out of warranty, so no help there. I did a search for the old board, and found there were alot of posts about the board going bad, and emachines replacing it, but since it was out of warranty, I bought an ASUS.

Windows can be funny about replaing a motherboard as it can think you have placed the drive in a new machine and I think this could be a problem. Can you get your hands on the XP install disk to do a repair install ??
