New system doesn't boot

I just finished building my first complete PC from scratch and unfortunately it doesn't boot.
It is made up from an Asus P4C800 motherboard, a P4 3.2E (Prescott) CPU, Saphire ATI Radeon 9600 and 512MB of generic ram (correct type).
When starting up the system the leds and cooler fans all turn on but I get no sytem beeps and display (monitor OK).
I have removed my optical and HD drives and thought that I should be able to boot to the BIOS but without success.
I am considering upgrading to 2*256MB of Kingston memory but am sceptical that this will help me...
I think it may be a problem with the CPU as well, my motherboard is said to support Prescott CPUs from BIOS version 1016 on, but if I cannot boot to bios I have no way checking it.
I have no other graphic card to check but mine is new and should be OK.
I would be very happy if someone has any idea or suggestion on what else I should try to get this sytem running...

thanks very much!

Well your FSB speed on your MB matches the CPU. That's good.

Your video card is AGP8x and you have an AGP8x slot.

Your MB takes DDR400 RAM, so the "correct type" is DDR400.

I get no sytem beeps

Have you installed a magnet ... er, um ... a speaker? Mine doesn't beep because it doesn't have one.

I would double check everything is wired and connected properly.

Unhappy Wont start up!

Hi, have you managed to resolve this problem? I have exactly the same problem with almost identical hardware.... Pentium 4 3.2GHZ Prescott, Asus P4C800 deluxe M/board 4 x 512MB Inefion DDR400 PC3200 Ram and a GeForce FX5700 Ultra 128MB XFX graphics card.

When I power up the system fans start but nothing else happens!

I have built the system at an anti static workstation using a wrist band. I have built hundreds of systems prior to this with no problem, so I would like to think I have made a silly mistake... So whets going on!?

With the MB on the bench, just 1 stick of ram (512MB), cpu and cooler in place. Connected to 360Watt PSU, a speaker, and power switch.

When I switch on the cooler starts but thats it! no beeps nothing! However I do get a Vocal POST message on the audio out if I connected a speaker saying "system failed due to cpu overclocking" how can this be? I cant get to the bios to do it! There are no cpu clock or bus speed jumpers on the board! I have tried resetting CMOS with jumper and taking battery out many times (even leaving them out etc.. for 10mins once) but no change.

If I start up with no memory I get three beeps which is what I would expect indicating memory read write error.

If I put memory in, no matter how many sticks and in what combination nothing happens other than the vocal post.

I have tried different graphics cards including some pci ones and nothing!

Are these m/boards any good or should I just replace it with a different one?

Anyone got any ideas?

A

ONe thihng similar happened to me, the fans came on but nothing else happened. It beeped though, and I found that I had used the wrong "configuration" for my system memory. I had 128X4, but I needed 64X8 I think.

1. ohotos no beeps and no display

2. quark800 no beeps and no display (a speaker saying "system failed due to cpu overclocking")

3. polyesterhat beep and no display

1. bios, cpu, memory must be checked on another's. There's no way. Don't Mix-test and guess.

2. Your special instrument saying CPU OVERCLOCKED

But threre is possibility that bios(or mother) is broken, because if not actually overclocked, the cpu is

over-supplied by mother. Of course CPU itself crazy is possible. Then memory., but often long-beeped. This may

be applied to No.1

3. At least bios is active. And if beeped once, video should be suspected first. When wrong-memoried, continued beeps are often the case.

Hi, Purchased a ASUS P4C800E-Deluxe motherboard, P4 3.4ghz Intel processor, with one gig of Corsair PC3200XLPro Dual Channel memory in two 512meg sticks, use a ATI9800 128 meg graphics card, 200 gig Western Digital Special Edition hard drive, Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro sound card, Antec Neopower 480W new power supply, new Lian LI V1000 case...tested all components except memory and processor on my other machine, when power is turned turned on, the green system board light comes on and stays green, there is a quick red LED hard drive light at the front case that turns on, then goes off, all case fans run and stay on, graphics card fan on, processor fan on, activity LED lights along both memory sticks run thru normal self check then top two LEDs stay green with no activity, no beeps from BIOS, monitor is good, tested on other system, it stays on the initial amber screen indicating and indicating no video signal....swapped out the ATI graphic card with a known good GeForce 3 Titanium 500 card from other system, still nothing...have no idea what could be wrong...anybody had this problem?
.if you get your problem solved, call me!

Whats wrong with these asus mobos?

I have a quite similar problem with an asus p4s800 mobo, with a 3.2GHz prescott, 400W apoen psu, 2x512 400 DDR kingmax ram, and an asus v9999 vga. the problem occurs occasionally, sometimes everything goes fine. but sometimes if i switch the comp on, all the fans power on, but the monitor stay off. if i hit a reset, the comp boot well. if i turn it off, the fans sometimes stay powered, like it goes in suspend. latest bios. i realized, that if i don't have to reboot of something, i can switch the machine off well, and next morning it will able to boot. but if i had a reboot, (mostly unable to restart, but shut down instead), i will have an annoying procedure to boot my pc up. it will shut down, if i hit reset, sometimes goes into biod with wrong cpu settings. and after a few try, it will bott up normally. any idea?

Most of these descrips sound like a Mobo problems for sure... almost like one that would/should be cured by latest/greatest BIOS... have you checked the ASUS support site FAQ/KB?

anyone who has built 2 or more systems and gets these problems knows what they are doing and it really sounds MOBO prob to me...

my $.02
