No network cards work

Here's the scoop. Machspeed P4MDPT motherboard with a celeron on it.

Built-in NIC card stopped working after about a year of operation. Disabled it in BIOS, uninstalled it from win 98.

Installed new linksys card, no win98 drivers available so I installed XP home edition on its own partition, installed drivers etc. New NIC card doesn't work. Old card still won't work under XP either.

Network is 3-4 PC's running 98 and 2 running XP on Cat 5 to LInksys Broadband hub which also has wireless built in. All work fine except machine in with the problem.

My question is: what if anything can go wrong on a motherboard that would keep any network card installed in it from working? Be it on board or installed in a slot?

(^~;?(What condition is it having in device manager, ? maked or nothing?)

PCI cards can be installed automatically even if onboard one is enabled, but they also can be conflicted when PCI sharing is enabled. Other cards also can cause conflict with that.

More info

Thanks for the response

Either of the cards looks fine in device manager. No conflicts. This is true even when both are installed and "running". I'm just trying to get one or the other operating. I have no reason to dual port this machine.

Because the onboard one simply stopped working and nothing changed I'm assuming it's dead. I've had to replace PCI NIC's in the past that did the exact same thing but it was never a problem getting the new one started afterwards.....

(^^;? (Sorry, I'm late.)

Even if superficailly not conflictd, some cards are incompatible with others. In this case you need to disable onboard Lan and IRQ sharing and also unnecessary COM port and printer ones, also assign it manually if necessary.
