No Power Up, Graphics Card Twitch

I did a search and couldn't find anything that matched my problem, apologies if i am repeating stuff though.

My Problem

I 'was' running Windows XP on (?)

Asus AVN8X with onboard sound + ethernet
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512MB RAM
Seagate Barracuda 80 Gig HDD
Liteon CD R/RW DVD R
GeForce 4 4400 Ti

All was working well until i decided to back up to a Seagate 7200.7 120 Gig Drive and do a fresh install of Windows, the new drive installed fine and then windows setup opened fine, but i had to go out and left it, arriving home late i decided to leave it until mourning and fell asleep with the 10 Gig windows partition formating. i awoke in the morning to a blue/purple\black screen. not terribly suprised i went to reboot and have another crack at it but found that there was absolutely no response. i observed the power LED on the Mobo and tried again, nothin'. No fanse, no disks, but i did hear a brief and faint sound. on closer inspection i found that if i turned the PSU off and on and then hit the power switch that the fan on the GeForce would Twitch, but that was it.

have a lot of work to do and was relying on that computer being available yesterday, any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is almost definately a bad PSU.

Did you get it fixed yet?

I had the exact same problem. I posted my problem under the title "No power to montherboard." It has been read 12 times but nobody has responded. Is it possible that nobody knows what caused this? did you ever find out?

I did test my PSU and it was just fine. In fact, I put the old mobo back into the same box, and it works just fine.

Did you find a fix for this, i have the same kind of setup. Ill list it below but i am running into the same problem. I have replace my mobo and still same thing. No fans work on my Graphics card and it will not post. So please let me know whats going on.. thx

Hi NuphonicBluw, and welcome to DevShed.

You have replaced your motherboard, but have you tested the PSU ? You can test it the old fashioned way by shorting the connector, this link will show you how to do it ==> Clicky

I havent tried that yet but heres the thing. The heatsink fan spins and it seems like its on, but the gpu fans are off. (no posting) also psu fans are on and the lights are on as well. I will try your tip tonight. Thanks. well see if it works.




Alright, if anyone is still reading this post. lol well i tried your psu trick and it isnt the power supply. that think lit up like normal. any other suggestions or question that might help me out?



Its kewl everyone, i must say that i am in quite a prediciment. I found the exact problem, my cpu is fried. Though there is no way to tell it is exactly FRIED, i used the pci problem finder (that uses led's). I cannot remember the name right now but im sure you know what i mean. Its a very neat tool that MSI puts out. I got one green light (1) and the rest were red (3). This mean that my chipset failed to initialize.
Researching this i was able to find that it could be my chipset (which i replaced) could not be the problem so the only other thing would be my cpu. Thanks for everyones help, even though you couldnt get back to me as soon as i liked it was greatly appreciated I hope this helps other people who google search this problem. ONe more thing, does anyone know where to get a 3200 athlon? I have been looking online and the cheapest i could find was around 130$ oem. Any reply would be greatly appreciated.

Glad that you got it solved. I reckon that $130 for an Athlon64 is quite a good price.

Your right... If I were talking about a 64 bit processor. lol Its okay, Socket A's arent really talked about much anymore. For an Athlon xp processor, would you kno of any sites?
