Nothing

Hey, so one day my computer had a little smoke comin out of it's back and then i turned it off. After that i tried turning it on so it didn't work but then after I opened the computer and looked at the computer. The motherboard's 2 led lights go on its an ATX by the way but when i try to turn it on it doesn't turn on ! what could be the problem?! Nothing runs when i press the switch. Could the switch be shorted?

thx

the first suspicious thing is the Power Supply Unit... if you have one available it's an easy troubleshooting method...

It could also be an integrated component on the board...try removing all the cards/drives etc and see if it posts...

ok

so i took out allt he stuff cept the motherboard proccessor and powersupply now I see that the motherboard still has LED's on does that mean the powersupply is working? and by POST do u mean it shoud start beeping? cuase it doesn't when i try to turn it on. I looked at the guide for hookin up the computer's motherboard and i saw that the switch to the mother board needs to be hooked up in a certain matter so i keep on rehooking it up but it asks for these plugs called the atx sw plug and i can't find that in any of the plugs coming from the switch and the speaker plug. Those two plugs don't come from the switch. Although from the switch there are these wierd plugs that say Vcc GND and i don't know what that is and I only have a HDD LED , Reset and power one coming from switch. What should i do!! i am so aggravated

NO, the lit LEDs does not rule out a faulty PSU! the best option (and should be the first tried) is to substitute the PSU to rule it out as the culprit...

you don't have the manual for the mobo...?

you can bypass the switch by shorting the two pins on the "power switch" posts
