P2 upgrade to p3
hi,
ive got an old 266mhz p2 (yes really a 266mhz ) and was wondering if i could put a 933mhz p3 i have hanging around into the motherboard. Will this work or is the motherboard too old to handle it/ pin configuration wrong etcAny info would be great thanks. |

there are 2 types of p3, but only one type of p2 (afaik)
i would say no, since i have not seen a slot P3 over 800mhz, you may find that the p3 you have your eyes on is a socket type chip meaning it will most likely not fit your current P2 system. you could try and find a slocket... but im not sure wheter 1) the p3 chip will fit and 2) whether the motherboard will accept the slocket with p3 chip. without more info i would say "no" it wouldnt happen. sorry Matty |

no worries, thats kind of what i thought but wasn't sure.
Thanks for the reply. Ive got a 2.3ghz celeron hanging around so i guess i'll buy a new motherboard and get that working instead. |
