P4S533-VM mobo, bios locks up on advanced tab
I have an Asus P4S533-VM motherboard, and I am having problems in the bios. Whenever I scroll over to the advanced tab, it freezes. It allows me to access other tabs, but as soon as I access the advanced tab, it freezes and I am forced to reboot. I have tried updating my bios, and I am now using the most current bios update from asus. The bios is made by ACPI, and it is AwardBIOS version 6.0. I am currently trying to disable the onboard sound so I can install a separate sound card, but it will not allow me to access the controls for that. Any help on the issue would be great.

It sounds like you might have a bad card in there because that could mess up the BIOS.

Some other info:
It has done this since I first got it. I bought the computer from a company called AM-Comps, and I don't know if there is any way to disable access to the advanced tab in the bios using jumpers, but that is one possibility I have thought of. I have flashed my bios, already, and that has not helped it. As for cards messing it up, it did this in the past back when I was using everything onboard, meaning no cards of any type plugged in. The only thing I can think of is the motherboard may have a problem, but I don't want to go out and replace it for nothing if that isn't the case. |

solution
I just had this problem and tried to google it and found this thread. I also tried updating the BIOS but that didn't change anything.
What worked for me was to clear the RTC RAM. For my Asus mb P4PE, the instructions were in the motherboard user guide section 2-17. I had to power off the pc, unplug it, switch the CLRTC1 jumper from the 1-2 to 2-3 position, and then wait 5-10 secs, then switch it back. Then boot again and go in to the BIOS. It worked for me. |
