Warning! CPU settings have been changed.
Hi all, Pc kept freezing and turning it's self off, did a complete re-install with no change. Couple of days later a message saying "Waring CPU settings have changed!" appears at start up.
Is it worth trying to fx this, or is the diagnosis terminal? AMD XP 2.0 CPU and JetWay polaris Main board, both about 2 yrs old. Cheers LazyTrucker. |

Hi lazytrucker and welcome to Dev Shed.
Can you change and save settings in the BIOS ? Have you tried to flash your BIOS ? Also, try removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes and then replace it and try removing the CMOS jumper if your mobo has one to clear it. Although, it could be a faulty CMOS chip and by which you would need to replace the mobo as that's the easiest option.

It is possible that the machine is over heating. Are the fans running louder than normal ?

Yup PC still crashing and turning off, the fans seem to be running normally and I have cleaned out the heat sink. I think a new box maybe in order

Maybe a bad PSU? You should check the rails with a multimeter. - this could be a reason for autoshut downs.

This does sound consistant with a cpu overheating. I have come accross this many times and the heatsink fan wasnt spinning as it should so couldnt disipate the heat properly.
You have already cleaned the heatsink but did you remove it to clean and re-apply a nice even layer of thermal paste? Also make sure that the heatsink is fully touching the cpu. Just a few things to consider if you havent already. Please post your cpu and internal temps, that should help us diagnose the problem. Ice. |

Hi all was wondering if it is possible it could be down to the main board battery, as other people seem to have had similar problems as a result + the clock keeps re-setting its self?
IceDragon the cpu and internal temps you mention are they found in the bios? I think Ive seen them there however I am at work at the moment and will post them tonight thnx for the help ppl. LazyTrucker. |
