PC powers up, no screen, no boot...
sorry this is probably the 100th time this kind of post has been made but ive tried all i can and still no success.
Ive got a Foxconn SiS661FXME with a P4 2.8 Northwood CPU (SL6PF). Just got all the bits in today so I put it together and turned on for the first time. Resulted in fans running up, from what i can hear the hdd spins up, CD-ROM opens closes etc. But blank screen, no beeps. Thats all that happens, first time anything like this has happened to me.. Ive tried Resetting CMOS, Replacing and trying new RAM. PSU is brand new so i doubt its that. Have taken the mobo out the case to see if the cause was a short... NO LUCK. The CPU is brand new too. Is there anything i can check without replacing CPU and/or Mobo? Also if i power up the mobo with no hardware attached, should I get something on the screen? cheeers guys ![]() |

This may not be the problem if you already are aware of it...but many first time P4 system builders aren't familiar with the 4 pin CPU power connector...it is a special 4 wire plug that powers the the CPU, there is a plug on the mobo...if your current P/S does not have the lead you can get an adapter...
Good Luck.. |

Yup - try re-seating the CPU too.

cheers for the feedback guys, much apreciato
firstly im aware of the need for an ATX12V PSU with the square 4pin power plug for p4 processors. question about the PSU though, its a micro-atx board in a normal atx case - does it need a special PSU? hope i havent fried it... secondly with the re-seating of the CPU. this just means taking the CPU out the socket and putting it back? if so ive tried that once, no changes there. im leaving the batt from the CMOS out overnight to see if that has any effects on the situation but im sure thats unlikely to help as ive also reset it via the jumper method. questions Im guessing by your replies so far that booting up the mobo without cpu and ram will still result in a blank screen? How likely is it that I have a dead CPU? thanks again |

From the sounds of it, it is very probable that you have a dead cpu.
