pci v1.0 and 2.1
Hi
What are the differences between pci 1.1 and 2.1. I tried to fit a wireless network card into and old pc with the via VT586 chipset but it is not recognised by windows. The card apparently needs a 2.1 enabled pci slot, which presumably my old board does not have. Is there a software/bios/hardware fix for this or must I buy a new mobo? tbx! |

Would not be PCI 1.x, for most part that standard was not put into practice (1.x was like a working draft, something to develop 2.0 around).
As for PCI 2.0 to 2.1, chipset has to support 2.1 and difference is a wider/faster bus (other differences as well). 2.0 is from around 1993 2.1 is from around 1995/96 Fairly certain (but not 100%) that your board is a 2.0, thus no to using 2.1 cards in it. |

Thanks for that. I think the motherboard is older than I thought and not 2.1 enabled. Seems I have no option than to go shopping for a new one!
